"People don't just need to add Jesus to their lives, but to subtract sin as well." To live that Matthew 22:37 directive, we have to remind ourselves not just to get more Jesusy, but to get less worldly as well. My hope is that more believers will focus on the eternal and doing something that lasts beyond themselves.Bro. My earnest prayer for that trip was to go and experience God at work, for me to see as He sees. I had to deliberately abandon my own personal desires of going because I like to travel and sight see. It is so amazing how our lives really are better off when we put others first and follow Christ's examples.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3757895878694476396.post-16612923539239653722008-09-24T10:29:00.000-04:002008-09-24T10:29:00.000-04:00Growing up in a serious Christian home(dad pastor,...Growing up in a serious Christian home(dad pastor, christian school principal), I 'took on' Christianity from the belief of my parents and out of fear of God. You learn all the language, all the dos and don'ts and you blend in---noone asks any questions---noone bothers you. I was a fool all the way around. When I turned sixteen, I literally couldn't stand myself anymore(but not for the right reasons). I wanted to be who I was and live how I wanted. The rebellion against God that had been internal for so long, continued to escalate over the next several years. God didn't change me until I was 24.<BR/>Of all of the daily exposure of Christianity and God's Word throughout my whole childhood, it didn't change me(but God undoubtedly used it mightly) until God took hold, His Spirit moved me and changed my heart. He was not indifferent toward false teaching, nor was he excusing immoral or hateful behavior. But he knew that Christ could be preached even out of the mixed motives found in imperfect human beings. What really matterd, Paul insisted, was that Christ was preached.'<BR/> Then in Isaiah 55:11, '...so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.' I think our Father sums it up there!
